About OW Reviews

A place to reflect on Overwatch matches and choose one thing to practice.

Why I built it

OW Reviews is a tool I've built to help players like myself play Overwatch with the intent on improving at the game, and ultimately understanding and playing the game at a higher level.

I'm a lowly metal ranked player (Silver/Gold) like you. I enjoy watching coaches and good players provide advice, cover fundamentals and help others get better and rank up in the game. But the common pattern I've heard from nearly every coach is the importance of self reflection.

Watching yourself, aka "VOD reviewing yourself", is a critical step without shortcuts, and many higher ranked players who offer advice recommend taking notes. I agree with this approach and before I began my journey of self-review and ranking up, I wanted the right tool to do it in.

This is 2026 after-all, and being a gamer in their 30s and working a corporate job, the last thing I want to do is manage another fucking spreadsheet. I wanted to build a tool for me, but also a tool that those in the larger Overwatch community could find useful as well.

OW Reviews is this tool. I hope it will serve me well, and hopefully you as well.

Do I recommend Coaching?

Coaches are valuable, absolutely. Getting a real player, who's played the game at a high level, and more importantly, can teach and aid players is great value. But, even if you pay for coaching, between sessions you will ultimately play many games, which they will not review but they will encourage you to review. This tool helps fill that gap. If you have the chance and its in your budget, yeah try a coach.

Many players on communities like r/OverwatchUniversity, are often happy to help review your VODs for free. Also check them out as well.

Current and Future State

Right now, I'm focusing on the basics of getting the foundation going. Going live, having the ability to create and share match reviews, and some basic data analysis. In it's current state, it's still a free tool to those who want to use it.

What I'd like to do eventually is bring a bit of AI into the mix to help analyze and see patterns which are not easily apparent. Cool things like taking a screen shot of the scoreboard and auto-parsing it into the tool are also ideas. Those features will need to shift the tool into free and premium plans eventually as doing cool stuff like this goes by usage/cost basis.

If this site does get popular I'll have to consider introducing some pricing models to help cover costs etc. but there will always be a free tier.

On advertising, I will never run junk ads on this site. What I may do is partner with other Overwatch side hustles, like coaches etc, which can run non-obnoxious ad banners within the site. So on topic etc.
